At Redruth School we recognise that attending school regularly and on time has a positive impact on learning, progress and achievement. Excellent attendance and punctuality is the key for our student’s success. For that reason, we must ensure that attendance and punctuality are the highest they possibly can be in order to prepare our students for their future adult life. It is the responsibility of everyone in our school community – parents, staff, students and governors to ensure they achieve this. Therefore, we are committed to monitoring and reviewing the attendance of all our students regularly.

Punctuality

Lateness = Lost Learning = Minutes amount to days

Students should arrive at the school for no later than 8.25am. The school offers Breakfast Club from 7.45am until 8.15am every morning.  Registration begins at 8.30am and form tutors electronically take the first register of the day. Students must report to the reception office to sign in if they arrive after this time. Arriving late, after registration, without a legitimate reason will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. If a student needs to leave school early they need to bring a note to show their form tutor and make sure they show the note to student reception and sign out when they leave. The school will contact you if we have concerns about punctuality and ask that you support our detention procedures re: student lateness.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school you must:

  • Contact us as soon as possible on the first day of absence, preferably before 9.00am. Please make sure you state your child’s name, form group and the reason for absence.
  • Or, you can call into school and report an absence to reception
  • Continue to notify the school every day that your child is absent.
  • Send a note in on the first day they return with an explanation of the absence – you must do this even if you have already telephoned us.
  • Provide a copy of the appointment card for doctor, hospital or dental appointments upon their      return.

If your child is absent we will:

  • Telephone or text you on the first day of absence if we have not heard from you;
  • Invite you in to discuss the situation with our Attendance Officer or Pastoral Head of Year if absences persist;
  • May refer to the Education Welfare Service if attendance falls below 85%

Attend and Achieve!

If a school can improve attendance by 1%, it can expect to see a 5-6% improvement in attainment. Please help your child to achieve their full potential by ensuring their attendance at school.
