Modern Foreign Languages

Welcome to Modern Foreign Languages, the Head of Faculty is Julie Bonhême and she should be the contact for all queries.  The faculty has 4 full time teachers, 2 part time teachers and 1 French assistant.  We have 5 Classrooms.  Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard.

Year 7

In year 7 all students have 3 periods of foreign language per week. Half the Year 7 population will study French and half will study Spanish.

Year 8

In year 8 all students have 3 periods of foreign language per week. Half the Year 7 population will study French and half will study Spanish.

Courses taught at Key Stage 4:

Key Stage 4 – GCSE French

This is a 3 year course which involves oral and written assessments (2 of each skill to be completed during Years 9, 10 and 11) and which culminates in Reading and Listening exams.

In order to gain confidence in and to improve upon their oral skills, students in years 9, 10 and 11 have small group work sessions with our French assistant.

They also have the opportunity to take part in the French exchange which takes place in Belle ile en mer, a small island in Brittany.

Key Stage 4 – GCSE Spanish

This is a 3 year course which involves oral and written assessments (2 of each skill to be completed during Years 9, 10 and 11) and which culminates in Reading and Listening exams.

They also have the opportunity to take part in the Spanish exchange to the Canary Islands.

  • At Key Stage 5 we offer A level French and Spanish
  • NVQ level 3 French and Spanish

Setting

Throughout their time with us we continually assess students based on their progress and attainment.  Classes are mixed ability and we do not place them in sets.
