Cambodia scuba expedition
Posted on: 03/10/2024At the end of term, six intrepid students and two teachers travelled to Cambodia on an adventure! They learnt to Scuba Dive and achieved their open water diver, they worked in local communities helping them build infrastructures and discovered Cambodian culture. Here are some of the students highlights and account of the trip...
We left on Thursday 11 July and returned on Friday 9 August. We did all sorts, from diving on an island called Paradise to building toilets in a Tropical Forest full of wildlife. Some of the highlights of my trip included being taught how to dive professionally on a private island. I loved meeting people from all around the country, who I am still in contact with today. We spent 4 weeks in Cambodia and I enjoyed every moment out there. This was a life changing experience and one I would 100% do again if I had the chance. By Jak
Going to Cambodia for 4 weeks was probably one of the most eye opening and best experiences of my life. It was incredible to spend a whole month living within a completely different culture and as the trip being my first abroad EVER and it was such a great experience. I already had high expectations for the trip before I left but all of them were exceeded immensely. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, make life long friends and memories and to indulge ourselves in a totally different environment and culture to what we had all experienced before. Some of my personal highlights being our time spent scuba diving on the dive island as learning to scuba dive was absolutely incredible and something I am going to continue for the rest of my life as I gained a qualification to dive up to 18 meters! Another for me was going to all the markets as it was amazing being able to immerse myself in the rich colours and smells of the clothes and food stalls. Doing the work in communities was also amazing as there was a real sense of accomplishment at being able to help the people who needed it the most. Overall Cambodia was an amazing experience and one that wil stay with me for life.

This was a truly eye opening trip. I found it amazing to experience life in a different culture and I think it has changed me for the better. One thing in particular that I found amazing was the feeling of freedom when floating around in the ocean surrounded by this spectacular marine life. Surprisingly, I found it fun to shovel and till the soil when digging out the ground and mixing concrete when we built a local community toilet! Other than that, it was just an all-round amazing trip where I was able to meet new people and develop my social skills. By Harry
