Sailing course at Stithians Lake

Posted on: 20/07/2026

Over the past 10 weeks, a group of students has taken part in weekly sailing lessons at Stithians Lake. Despite facing some challenging conditions, including periods of high winds that were not ideal for learning, they demonstrated outstanding resilience, determination and strength of character throughout the programme.

During the course, students developed a wide range of sailing knowledge and skills. They learned key aspects of sailing theory, including the 'rules of the road', knot tying, boat safety, and the 'Five Essentials' of sailing.

Their hard work and commitment was rewarded with the achievement of either the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Stage 1 or Stage 2 Dinghy Sailing qualification, which are globally recognised.

This fantastic opportunity was made possible through the generous support of the Youth Sport Trust, Greenmount Carpets, KES Commercials, Tegen Mor Fisheries Consultants and Jose & Blackler Heating and Plumbing. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our supporters for helping to make this experience possible for our students.
